Refined Adobe

North Scottsdale, Arizona

Kitchen Remodel

Set within an adobe-style home in North Scottsdale, this kitchen remodel is a study in what happens when traditional architecture meets a thoroughly modern sensibility. The adobe bones remain — thick walls, arched details, a sense of mass and permanence — but everything inside has been reimagined from the ground up.

Wavy soffits and truncated cabinetry gave way to floor-to-ceiling white oak millwork that commands the full height of the room. A dramatic bookmatched stone slab feature wall replaced a forgettable range backsplash, now framed by a sculptural plaster hood with an oak accent band that anchors the space as its defining architectural moment. The angled pantry — once overstuffed and underserving — was eliminated entirely in favor of a hidden pantry tucked behind a millwork-wrapped opening. The connection to the great room was widened and refined, and a garage-style window on the sink wall now opens to a desert landscape bar counter, dissolving the boundary between inside and out.

The result is a space that honors where it came from while arriving somewhere entirely new — warm, considered, and unmistakably current.
