The Palomino

Phoenix, Arizona

Partial Remodel

Tucked in a quiet Phoenix neighborhood with sweeping views of Camelback Mountain, The Palomino is a mid-century modern home that wears its era with confidence and a knowing wink. A young family transplanted from New York brought with them a love of music, an extensive vinyl collection, and a clear point of view — and the design follows suit.

The remodel touches three spaces flanking the entry, each with its own distinct personality. The listening room anchors one side: a warm, walnut-lined family room built around the ritual of playing records, with floor-to-ceiling shelving for the album collection, white painted brick, leather seating, and the kind of laid-back sophistication that makes you want to stay a while. On the other side, a formal dining room that nobody used was transformed into something far more honest — a speakeasy-style bar and lounge with dark wood beams, backlit shelving, bold patterned upholstery, a statement pendant, and a checkered floor that sets the whole room apart from anything else in the house.

The office completes the trio, now fully privatized with walnut built-ins, a magnetic wallpaper feature wall for the kids' rotating school art, and the focused, warm quality of a room that finally knows what it wants to be.

Mid-century in spirit. Timeless in execution.
